Studying at the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation

The Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation at the HAWK in Hildesheim, with approximately 600 students in the Bachelor and Master study programmes for architecture, civil engineering, wood engineering, conservation and restaurationis is the only faculty of this type at a university of applied sciences and arts in southern Lower Saxony. The faculty looks back on a long tradition of combining practical application with research and is closely linked to the construction industry in the region.

Education for practical application

The goal of the study programmes at the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation is to prepare students for the complex demands made in their professions in the best possible way by providing them with a widely based, scientifically qualified study of engineering. Teaching and studies focus consistently on the present and future job market.

Study programmes/Areas of specialisation

Subject-spanning project work

Studies focus on practical project work involving students of all three different building disciplines. In addition to designing their own profiles, which can be done by taking on an area of specialisation starting in the third semester, students practice and hone their skills in planning and methodology, in teamwork and in working independently on the basis of interdisciplinary co-operation.

Personal supervision

Manageable course sizes and intensive supervision and support in small learning groups enable students to pursue their studies effectively and with purpose. Studying in the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Conservation means close contact to professors and employees, with advising and support from mentors and tutors.

Study structure

In the first semester, all the students attend the courses that communicate the basic contents and key qualifications. Starting in the second semester, students can begin to individually design their own study profiles by choosing specific fields of competence. In semesters 2 to 5, students focus on interdisciplinary project work and a consolidation and deepening of skills by selecting from an extensive range of elective modules. Additional practical training and study abroad can be completed in an “out-of-college” module.
